Wildflowers of Ireland Profile: Great Willowherb

Great Willowherb (Lus na Trionóide) is a tall, beautiful plant often found in damp places. The leaves are stalkless and hairy; the tall, erect, robust stems are also hairy. No wonder it is sometimes called the “Hairy Willowherb”. Its four pink petals are notched. The four lobed white stigma, which is the part that receives pollen, is particularly noticeable as it protrudes above the stamens on a long white style. Photo taken on the Castlewarden road.
